The Smiths - 'William, It Was Really Nothing' German 'Marbled Vinyl' 12'' - 1984

The German multicoloured vinyl releases of the Smiths early records have become collectors items owing to their increasing scarcity and the impressive nature of the vinyl itself. The item up for auction here is the predominantly-purple marbled vinyl German release of 'William, It Was Really Nothing' on the 'Intercord' label from back in 1984. The pattern of the vinyl is particularly striking, with its mixture of purple, white and black colours which undergo subtle changes in appearance depending upon the light. The sleeve also differs from the standard release; as can be seen (see photo) there is a small representation of the purple vinyl design on the sleeve (printed, rather than a removable sticker). This was listed by Record Collector at Number 72 in their 2005 compilation of The Smiths Top 100 rarities. It is clearly a beautiful item and this copy has remained in collectable condition (see below).The record and labels are in excellent condition, having been played but well looked-after. The vinyl has very light superficial surface marks only, which become visible if the record is held to the light but do not spoil the striking visual effect of the multicoloured vinyl. The outer sleeve is also in excellent condition, having only mild beginnings of creases in a few places on the reverse but no marks or writing anywhere. The only imperfection is a very small 'cut out' in the sleeve towards the top right, as is common with this release. This is particularly small and unobtrusive, and is barely noticeable from the front. All edges are sharp and unworn, and there is no seam splitting. The corners have some mild wear only, in a few places. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.

Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask.
