Description

A fantastic copy of The Smiths' 1987 UK compilation "The World Won't Listen" on Rough Trade (ROUGH 101), featuring 16 tracks including "Panic," "Ask," "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out," "Shoplifters of the World Unite," "Bigmouth Strikes Again," and "Shakespeare's Sister" — essentially the cream of the Smiths' mid-'80s singles and B-sides run. The front hype sticker confirms the highlights; the back cover photo of girls at a fairground, shot by Jürgen Vollmer, is one of the great Smiths sleeve images.

This copy appears to be in its original U.S. importer seal — packaged by STI (Sire/Track Industries), who handled Rough Trade imports for the American market and often used a heavier poly sleeve with a folded lip rather than standard heat-shrink. The store price sticker on the back reads "9/87" and "Import," suggesting it was purchased essentially new, just months after the February 1987 release. Whether you consider it sealed or simply very well preserved is for you to decide — but it has clearly never been played.

Once upon a time I was a late-'80s alternative kid who bought all of this new. Apparently aging is real, and now we're here doing Swedish Death Cleaning. LOL

I have more Smiths-adjacent titles in my listings, and if you see something else you'd like, I'm happy to combine shipping — just pick up a couple of items and pay one shipping fee.

The buyer receives the exact item photographed. Shipping is via USPS Ground Advantage to the continental U.S. only — sorry, no international orders and no exceptions. Please review the photos carefully for condition details, and feel free to reach out with any questions before purchasing. Best offer considered.
