Description

The first of two EPs reimagining songs from the Soft Moon's excellent 2015 album, Deeper Remixed, Vol. 1 features remixes by artists on Berlin's [aufnahme + wiedergabe] label. Ancient Methods, Phase Fatale, Codex Empire, and Blush Response transform Luis Vasquez's insular, deeply personal meditations on despair and isolation into techno-informed workouts that lose none of their emotional impact. In particular, Ancient Methods' remix of "Being" injects the original's pitch-black post-punk with beats that borrow the best from techno and industrial, while Phase Fatale's revamp of "Desertion" takes the track's aggression in an EBM direction. Like other great remixes, Deeper Remixed, Vol. 1 honors the spirit of the original work while giving it new dimensions. ~ Heather Phares
