Hi all,

This Listing is for a copy of The Specials Rough Trade Exclusive 50th Anniversary Top Of The Pops Re-recordings 7 Inch Vinyl that is limited to 2,000 copies worldwide & which has now sold out. This The Specials 7 Inch Vinyl was released earlier this year with a new remastering of The Specials debut 1979 self titled album which isn’t included as part of this listing.

This 7 Inch Vinyl plays at 45 RPM & features unique unreleased mixes of Gangsters (Version) on then A-Side & A Message To You Rudy (Version) on the B-Side. This 7 Inch Vinyl comes in a card Vinyl Sleeves that features exclusive artwork of the original BBC Recording Studio hand written labels for the two multi track tapes on each side of it. Back in the late seventies & early eighties due to Musician Union rules bands couldn’t play the original versions of their Hit Singles on Top Of The Pops & thus had to record them to mime along to on the programme. Thus the versions of Gangsters (recorded on 31/07/1979) & A Message To You Rudy (recorded on 17/10/1979) which are on this Vinyl are unique & previously unreleased recordings & were recorded by The Specials at BBC Olympic Sound Studios specifically to be played on Top Of The Pops.

This Vinyl comes with 2 Tone paper labels on each side of it despite this release being released exclusive via Rough Trade licensed from Chrysalis Records which owns the 2 Tone imprint. The Catalgoue Number for this The Specials 7 Inch Chrysalis Vinyl is CDL75001. The Rough Trade Release Number for this 7 Inch Vinyl & the LP that it originally came with is 04/50 & it was released on the 3rd of February 2026. I’m selling this 7 Inch Single now as I only wanted the Specials Vinyl LP that this 7 Inch Vinyl came with originally.

This The Specials Rough Trade Exclusive 50th Anniversary Top of the Pops 7 Inch 2 Track Vinyl is in a new condition with no marks, rips, stains or tears to the Card Sleeve but slight edgewear to the Sleeve which is near mint. There are no surface marks, scratches or cracks to the Vinyl. This The Specials Rough Trade Exclusive Gangsters/A Message To You Rudy 7 Inch Vinyl hasn’t been played not even to test it so the Vinyl is mint & unplayed.
