Time Life Records – The Swing Era
Collection of 9 boxed sets each containing 3 vinyl LP’s with 10 tracks apart from 1 which has 4 tracks so 269 tracks in total.
They were re-created in 1982/83 and recorded in association with Capitol Records based on original band leader versions such as Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie etc. etc.
The recordings are therefore excellent quality – no hissing or anything!
I’m familiar with Glenn Miller having been brought up on him by my late father and I’ve listened to some of the Glenn Miller tracks and they sound just like the originals to me. I’m sure fans of Swing and big band music will be very happy with them.
These belonged to my late father-in-law who passed away in 2009 and I’ve just discovered them in a box in his garage following the passing of my mother-in-law.
You can see from the photos that nearly all are in excellent condition with just a little damage to a few boxes. I’ve examined every LP and they all look like new – my guess is they have only been played a few times, if at all. I’ve played a few tracks and all sound excellent.
Each box set contains a booklet with information about some of the featured band leaders. It also names the musicians from the original recordings as well as the ones from the re-creations in 1982/83.
