Description
This scarce Sunliner Records 45 captures The Trey Tones at their peak as one of Wooster, Ohio’s most interesting early teen‑sound and vocal‑group acts. Originally formed around 1960 as a three‑member harmony group—Bob Musselman, John Buss, and Sylvester “Vester” Copley—the Trey Tones performed locally with fellow Wooster musicians The Collegians before evolving into a fully self‑contained band.
By late 1963 or early 1964, the group issued their wildest and most collectible recording: “Nonymous.” With its unusual rhythm, off‑kilter delivery, and unforgettable lyrics (“look like she’s lost a hatchet fight”), the track has become a cult favorite among teen‑sound collectors. The flip side is their stripped‑down, garage‑pop flavored take on the Bobby Darin classic “Dream Lover.”
The Trey Tones disbanded around 1965, with Bob Musselman later contributing songwriting and production work to several mid‑1960s Ohio releases. Surviving copies of this Sunliner 45 are genuinely scarce, underscoring the rarity of this regional Ohio teen‑sound artifact.
Record is visually graded VG, with clean yellow labels and no major defects. Plays with typical light surface noise expected from early‑60s private‑press records but retains strong presence and clear vocals. A hard‑to‑find piece of Wooster, Ohio music history and a standout teen‑sound 45 for collectors of regional vocal‑group and garage‑era material.
