Welcome to my auctions- I have some interesting records for sale this week, something for all tastes! Please feel free to look through my other items- naturally, I will offer postage discounts for multiple purchases. I use “Record Collector's” grading system which is detailed below,  however as I believe records can be graded between “very good” and “excellent”, I will now use “+” or “-” to attempt to catalogue an item precisely.

• Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.

• Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening of sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

• Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

• Good: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc...

• Fair: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise: it may even jump. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

• Poor: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc.. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

• Bad: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.

The Wailers- Catch A Fire- 1st UK Press, ILPS 9241, released April 13th 1973.

Up for auction is The Wailers, Catch A Fire,  this record was unique in the fact it was presented in a “zippo” lighter sleeve. On offer is the very first press, with the original matrix numbers have been crossed out, with “STERLING” etched in the outer.

The sleeve is in Very Good (+) condition. The hinge is in full working order, with slight shelfwear along that side. There are some signs of ringwear, this is quite slight and does not detract the spectacle majorly. There are NO rips or tears, and there is little wear to the zippo lighter itself.

The record is housed in a Island company inner. This is slightly stained- I may find one prior to the auction finishing that is in cleaner condition. I will update the listing if this occurs.

The vinyl is in very good (+) condition. There are a few light surface marks, that can only really be seen under bright light. There are perhaps more of these light hairline marks on side one.

However, the record PLAYS without any pops, skips, jumps, or any unwanted surface noise. There is little, if any, sound deterioration, and the record has been cleaned professionally using a “Moth MK II” record cleaner.
