Description
Artist: THE WARM VOICE OF BILLY "C" Album: A HEAVY MESSAGE Label: STRATA-EAST Catalogue # : SES (BC) 77-1 Vinyl/Cover: VG++ / VG++
This is an odd and very obscure LP from the great Strata-East catalog. It was produced by the leader of the date, vocalist Billy "C". Great rhythm section! The bassist here put in a lot of time playing with Sun Ra. The drummer put in a lot of time playing with everybody (including Sun Ra)! I don't know much about the pianist, but he certainly keeps up with this fast company. The LP includes Bill Lee's tune "Too Little, Too Late" which Lee recorded a few years earlier for the great album The Descendents of Mike and Phoebe. I imagine that Billy Higgins made the suggestion as he is on both dates. For those trying to collect the entire Strata-East catalog, here's a rare opportunity to acquire a clean copy of one of the titles that seldom surfaces.
Side One: "Steal Away", "The Harder You Fall", "To Shari", "Such Is Life", "Linda", "To Terry" Side Two: "Monica", "Let Me Fill Your Soul", "Once I Loved", "When Joanna Loved Me", "She Was To Good To Me", "Too Little Too Late", "If I Knew Then"
Personnel: Billy "C" - vocals; Chris Anderson - piano; Victor Sproles -bass; Billy Higgins - drums & shrod
The vinyl is clean and shiny and plays well. The cover shows little sign of wear and definitely no writing, stickers or seam splits.
