NINTH BEATLES VINYL ALBUM

FIRST PRESSING:

The Beatles (The White Album), Apple PCS 7067/7068, stereo, November 22, 1968. 2LP set. Full laminated white gatefold cover has flaps on the left and right sides of the open gatefold with openings at the top.

The front of the cover has “The BEATLES” embossed in raised block letters. This stamped seven-digit number appears in grey on a slight downward angle towards the lower right corner: 0436458

This White Album contains four 28.8×20 cm glossy John Kelly colour portraits of the band and the Richard Hamilton collage poster with the lyrics on the back.  The records are housed in white inner sleeves with a die-cut circular opening on one side to expose the Apple label.

This pressing has labels without the “An E.M.I. Recording” text to the left of the labels above the “33 1/3? text (which appeared on the 2nd pressings). See the photos of the labels themselves.

To my best knowledge and after a lot of research I believe this to be a first pressing.

Matrix numbers:

Side 1: YEX 709-1

Side 2: YEX 710-1

Side 3: YEX 711-1

Side 4: YEX 712-1

Condition:

Cover:  VG. Shiny Clarifoil cover. This cover has a few little creases and dings on the outside, see photos. Some edge wear.

Inside gatefold is EX. Overall pretty presentable if not totally clear of damage. No rips or tears.

Inner sleeves:  EX. White sleeves possibly not original. Were the original inner sleeves black?

Vinyl:  VG. These discs have been played many times. Please note that I have played these LPs to check them. There are surface marks on both LPs but they play well but with some clicks and background noise. They don’t skip anywhere. Perhaps VG minus to play safe. These discs could probably benefit with a proper clean, something I’m not equipped to do.

Inserts: The photos are all VG/EX. Some evidence of handling but they’ve spent their life in the sleeve. The Collage poster/lyric sheet is VG. Handling wear only, no proper creases, rips stains etc. It too has spent its life in the sleeve.

VERY GOOD (VG)

The record has been played many times but shows no significant deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects.

GOOD (G)

The record has been played enough that the sound quality has deteriorated noticeably and may have pops and skips. The sleeve may suffer from scuffs, spine splits, ring wear and/or discoloration.
