Description
I'm Free/1921 by The Who (1969 Track PRO 3)
Ultra mega rare promo single from Tommy, never commercially issued.
Very good condition: normal surface wear.
Original plain white sleeve .
1921 was composed and sung by Pete Townshend and appears as the third track on the group's first rock opera, Tommy (1969). In the song, Tommy's father, Captain Walker, returns home after being declared missing in action during WW1 and discovers his wife has found a new lover. Together, Capt. and Mrs. Walker murder the lover before the seven-year-old Tommy's eyes. They persuade him that "You didn't hear it/You didn't see it/You won't say nothing to no-one", and Tommy retreats into deafness, dumbness, and blindness as a consequence.
I'm Free tells of Tommy's vision to spiritually enlighten others due to his sudden and immense popularity. The Pinball Wizard appears at the end of the song during the "How can we follow?" part.
