Description

THE WHO – THE WHO SELL OUT

(AUSTRALIA, POLYDOR INT. 612002)

(ORIGINAL MONO PRESSING, 1967)

Australian Mono copy of the third Who album released here in late 1967. Pressed on the Black/Red ‘Polydor International’ label, Mono examples of these are rare, possibly only several hundred in the marketplace originally as the format was being phased out during 1968 (and rarely appear for sale.)

A pot pourri of pop-art mod infused psychedelia, it is very much a high point in the Who’s early recording career before changing direction the following year and recording ‘Tommy’. Some of Pete Townshend’s finest songs are within.

Of interest is the variation on the cover, with Keith Moon advertising the well renowned acne remover in this country, ‘Clearasil’ as opposed to the UK cover which featured the ‘Medac’ lotion (which probably didn’t mean anything here in Australia.)

Pressed from UK Polydor/Track Stampers, this is the original Mono mix (which differs substantially from the Stereo one)., and is a gem in the band’s catalogue. Some of Pete Townshend’s finest songs are within.

*************************************************

Cover = VG+ (Laminated Polydor sleeve. Cover is intact, some creasing and laminate lift on both front and back. This is the correct cover for this release, as the back and spine refer to the Mono catalogue number)

Record = EX (Lovely sheen, the odd minimal hairline, no scuffing, markings.)

Black/Red Polydor International labels in Excellent condition.
