Description

THE ZOMBIES

ODESSEY & ORACLE

DATE LABEL (TES 4013) – 1968 – FIRST US RELEASE

Both jacket and vinyl score a very good plus on the Goldmine Scale.  There’s wear at the jacket corners and the vinyl has slight scuffs that don’t affect listening experience.

A very rare, must have album for any collector of British Rock or 60’s Rock.

This record is # 80 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.  This is the only true Zombies Album in that it consists entirely of original compositions from the group’s principal songwriters, Chris White and Rod Argent.  All of their other albums included covers of songs previously released by other artists.

This was a “last hurrah” album - the boys had been together 7 years and the last 2 had been without a hit – they were getting ready to call it quits.  All tracks were recorded in 1968, mostly at EMI’s Abby Road Studios, making this the 1st independent album to be recorded at that studio.  By the time O & O was released in the UK in April, 1968, the Zombies had split up.  The 1st US release was in June, 1968.  When “Time of the Season” made the “Top 40” Charts in 1969, Columbia re-released the album with a modified jacket that significantly cropped the original art work.

Interesting Trivia Question:  Why did they misspell “Odyssey”?  I’ve heard several urban legends, but I don’t know.  I think that it ranks up there with “Paul is dead”.

I’m the original owner of this record and have treated it well for the past 40 years - it should provide many more hours of listening pleasure.

Tracks:

Side 1:  Care of Cell 44;  A Rose For Emily;  Maybe After He’s Gone;

Beechwood Park;  Brief Candles;  Hung Up On A Dream

Side 2:  Changes;  I Want Her She Wants Me;  This Will Be Our Year;

Butcher’s Tale  (Western Front) 1914;  Friends of Mine;  Time of The Season

Thanks for looking – even if you didn’t bid.  I enjoy retelling the history of my vintage vinyl.
