Description
This mono album was purchased new, probably in 1960, in Wolverhampton.
The disc is in excellent condition and plays perfectly. The run offs are engraved RLP -12-226 A-2 and B-2 respectively.
The thick card, partially laminated, outer sleeve is sound, without splits, tears or creases. Clear tape to the edges of the slot has resulted in staining, more noticeable on the back. A few finger marks on the back.
Titles: Brilliant Corners, Ba-lue Bolivar Ba-lues-are, Pannonica, I Surrender Dear (piano solo), Bemsha Swing.
Personnel: Monk piano (plus celeste on Pannonica), Ernie Henry alto, Sonny Rollins tenor, Oscar Pettiford bass, Max Roach drums.(timpani on Bemsha)
On Bemsha Swing, Clark Terry and Paul Chambers replace Henry and Pettiford.
Recorded NY City, 1956
This album, recorded at the Reeves Sound Studios, Manhattan, took three sessions to complete; 9th. & 15th. October and 7th. December. The middle date was particularly frustrating. The full session resulted in nothing more than a large number of incomplete takes of Brilliant Corners. Orrin Keepnews` editing was solely responsible for the released version.
