Description
Riverside RLP 12-226, original. White label with blue Riverside banner at the top, deep groove, mono; Bill Grauer Production. 5 tracks with Monk, piano (celeste and “Panponica”) ; Ernie Henry, alto sax; Sonny Rollins, tenor sax; Oscar Pettiford, bass; Max Roach, percussions. On “Bemsha Swing”, Clark Terry replaces Henry; Paul Chambers replaced Pettiford. “I Surrender Dear” is unaccompanied piano solo. One of Monk’ masterpieces. Very rare edition. Cover: VG+. Intact, with minor aging and small red marks on the front cover. Back cover has some light aging and a small tear (with paper loss) of about 2” x ½” irregular pattern that does intrude into the first column of the notes. Record: VG+. Visually shows no wear. In spite of this clean appearance, there are some crackling throughout. This varies in intensity and on 2 tracks, all but disappears with the exception of some clicks. The vinyl is moderately heavy. Audibly checked.
