Third Ear Band Alchemy

First pressing without the EMI logo on the label,

Harvest SHVL 756 A-1 H2 / SHVL / 756 B-1 P1

Although they were loosely affiliated with the British progressive rock scene of the late '60s and early '70s, Third Ear Band were in some ways more of an experimental ensemble performing contemporary compositional work, making their debut in 1969 with the extraordinary album, Alchemy. The group was founded by drummer Glen Sweeney who had roots in Britain's free jazz scene. Other members were Richard Coff (violin, viola), Mel Davis (cello, slide pipes), plus brief appearances by DJ John Peel (jaws harp) and violinist Dave Tomlin.

Sleeve: Gate-fold outer-laminated sleeve, all edges true, no rips or writing, light age related signs of handling, very light edge rub, and small split at bottom of spine. There are some age related (foxing) marks on back and inner sleeve (see photos) VG+ maybe Ex- depending on how strictly you grade.

Labels: Classic Yellow/Green Harvest, No EMI logo. Signs of light handling only (see photos) EX-

Vinyl: Visually both sides retain their original gloss - feint wispy hairlines caused by sleeve removal under light, one (non-feel-able) surface scuff mark S1 T1 - nothing of which interferes with listening graded EX

Audio: Great audio, plays through clean - very light dust static on run in and that’s it, no pips, pops, distortion or nasty surprises - graded EX heading towards EX+ you wont be disappointed.

I strictly adhere to the Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide using one + or - for addition guidance:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
