Description
Noted conductor Sir Thomas Beecham conducts the LPO in two excerpts from Mozart's "Jupiter" Symphony, recorded during 'conventional' mono sessions in 1934 at Abbey Road using experimental stereo recording aparatus designed and operated by Alan Blumlein, Symposium 1027-8, two 12" vinyl 78s recorded in 1909 (though the original masters were 10", here re-pressed as 12" due to limitations of the presses available when these vinyl reissues were made in the 1980s - extra metalwork was welded round the 10" masters at the pressing plant to allow thme to be used in a 12" press, hence the apearance of the area outside the grooves). These use the Blumlein sum+difference stereo system so you'll need a suitable decoded / sum+difference conversion matrix to get the full effect...
This issue was one of a series of collector issues from about 20-30 years ago and is of considerable historical interest as an early stereo test, pressed from the original HMV/EMI master metals. Mint condition - test-played once at the time of issue, probably played no more than once or twice since, if at all and only played on modern lightweight SME 3009 arm with a Shure / Expert Pickups correctly sized diamond stylus in good, checked condition. Stored upright on shelf with other 78s (under enough sideways pressure to keep vertical and unwarped but not sufficient to cause damage) in a centrally heated pet- and smoke-free home. Some dust but no marks, nicks, scratches etc.
