We all know that Thurston Moore regularly mucks in with the troops when it comes to grass roots noise, but Kevin Shields? THE Kevin Shields? Er, no. It's actually LA noisenik Eva Aguila, who shall forever be condemned to courting disappointment if she insists on using that name. It's one thing for Jason Forrest to lark around as Donna Summer for a year or two, but let's not get carried away... After a couple of tracks of fairly indiscriminate feedback howls from Ms. Aguila, Thurston's 'Unzipped' shows up with a buzzing, nasal ferocity. Next, Barrabarracuda's 'Stone Cold Steve Austin At The Cold Stone Creamery' proves to be every bit as entertaining as its title, smashing its way through an Erase Errata-via-Magik Markers garage racket. It's back over to Thurston for the improbably pretty acoustic guitar jam 'Petite Bone', paving a way for more fourtrack folksiness from Solitary Hunter. It's a return to hair-raising noise next, with acts like Moth Dracula and Haircut Mountain Transit firing off noisy feedback experiments that in truth, are only a fraction as interesting as their names (the latter's 'Winona Ryder Vice Over' winning extra nomenclature-based points). The final three tracks are strong: Privy Seals and Toxic Loincloth show a little more craft in their noise experiments, while Thurston gets the final word, dishing out distorted psych shapes on the thoroughly warped 'Creamsikkle'. Ace.
