Description
Here we have an acetate copy of What's A Matter Baby by Timi Yuro. It's cut onto a 10-inch disc and is single sided, made in the USA. It is labelled as "What's The Matter Baby".
It's difficult to put a value on something like this, and so as it's such a unique piece I'm selling as an auction rather than Buy It Now.
According to a story I've read after the recording was made, Timi Yuro had some acetates made and took them to radio stations in person. This could well be one of those.
This was the first album where Timi was able to do what she wanted for a change. Al Bennet who was the president of Liberty Records, faught her all the way on What's A Matter Baby. The song was written as a ballad, a Laverne Baker type ballad, but Timi heard it as an uptempo song. Bennet told her it was a piece of sh-t, but Timi didn't care. Once the mix was done, she had acetates made and drove them around to different radio station in person, asking them to play the song. The song caught on before they had even gone to press, so they had to hurry to get as many pressed as they could. Timi's idea's and concepts paid off for this one and Al had to eat a little crow! The song went all the way up to Number 12 in the Hot 100, making this Timi's second biggest hit to date! Timi was now free to make the album that she had always wanted to make!
