Description
Well, if you’re looking at his most likely you don’t need a long explanation of what this and what makes it rare. This is the rare alternate pressing of “Runt”, which adds an early alternate version of “Hope I’m Around” to side 1, and the otherwise unreleased “Say No More” to side 2. Also on side two, the medley of “Baby Let’s Swing/The Last Thing You Said/Don’t Tie My Hands” is replaced with a full song version of “Baby Let’s Swing”. And on side 1, the lp opens with a brief vocal bit extracted from “There Are No Words” (on side 2 in full) which segues into the lead off lp track “Broke Down and Busted”. As you may already know, several other tracks do have some differences in the mixes, but are the same takes per se. The condition for an lp this old and so rare is a strong VG on the record, and VG for the cover. I have included the maximum 12 (hi res) photos allowed by eBay to try and give as accurate a view of the cover and lp label conditions as possible. On playback, it is a solid “VG”, does have surface noise in places and the occasional click or pop, but, no skips. Most impressively, there are no seam splits on either the LP cover, or even on the paper insert. On the top right corner of the lyric side of the insert, there is an about 1.5” section where the glue has failed – not ripped or torn, not a seam split, just tat small section can be lifted back with a finger, as shown in the last of my 12 photos. Photo 10 shows an age discoloration issue that is on some parts of the rear cover. The cover does have flaws, and I’ve done my best to show them with the limited number of photos allowed. The run-off etchings on the record are (locations based on record label facing upright): Side 1: A 10105-A (etched upside-down at 12 o’clock) STERLING LH (etched upright at 6 o’clock) ARC 11-23-70 (etched facing outward at 3 o’clock; much lighter etching, harder to see) AL (etched facing outward at 9 o’clock) Side 2: A 10105 B (no dash) (etched upside down at 12 o’clock) STERLING LH (etched upright at 6 o’clock) ARC 11-23-0 (etched facing outward at 3 o’clock; much lighter etching, harder to see, and the “7” from “70” is obscured or missing, only the “0” is visible) AL (etched facing outward at 9 o’clock) If you’re not a record collector but want to hear this, the recent UK 2-cd reissue of Runt (there was a slim double jewel release, followed by a hardcover book format re-release) does contain a nicely cleaned up needle drop of this alternate “Runt”, which does lack surface noise or audible clicks or pops. They did a nice job with it. But if you’re a Todd super-fan who loves their vinyl, or just a record collector who like rare pressing such as this, this may be for you!
