Description

Tommy McCook & Bobby Ellis – ‘Blazing’ / ‘No Water’ – Grove Music 006 (UK)

‘Blazing’ is a fantastic tune that kicks off the rare Blazing Horns album (Grove 102, 1979) – produced by Yabby Youth (Vivian Jackson), recorded at Channel One, and mixed at King Tubby’s – but the tough track here is the version side, with its ‘rewind’ rolling of the tape at the start. Utterly crucial stuff, and very rare in this format. Please listen here:

Isn’t it fantastic? I can’t think of too many discs with a built-in ‘rewind’ like that – though presumably there must have been a handful in the history of reggae. ‘No Water’ was used to extend ‘Blazing’ (aka ‘Blazing Horns’) for the re-release of the Blazing Horns and Tenor In Roots albums on Blood and Fire’s 2003 CD of the same name. This is how you’ll be wanting this tune though… On a UK seven-inch. Loudness galore!

Condition: Excellent. Visually, a few minor marks and scuffs causing a couple of almost inaudible clicks, but nothing that really detracts from listening. A great-sounding record. Labels are clean except for a small stain at circa quarter past two on the ‘Blazing’ side.

Starting this low, but it’s a really rare record with lots of historical interest.
