Description
GNP 11 4x. Robin's Mambo (2:28) / The Black Sleep (2:54). Tony Martinez, most famously known as Pepino on "The Real McCoys", was quite an influential muscian on the West Coast Latin scene. He appeared on a lot of recordings, but not under his own name. The "Black Sleep" side, written by Les Baxter, sounds like it could be from some Beatnik monster movie. The vinyl is a strong VG, with just a few tics here and there. The labels are excellent. You can hear sound samples of both sides here:

Click on the "Latin" heading on the right side of the genre index, and then scroll to the "Vibraphones and California Latin Jazz" entry. You'll find another GNP 45, "The Pharoh's Curse" (also written by Les Baxter!) and a link to a clip of Tony and his band tearin' it up in the the 1956 epic, "Rock Around The Clock". Don't miss it!
