[ A Death Metal combo out of Täby, masterminded by Johan Edlund. TREBLINKA was the forerunner of leading Alt-Gothic Metal band TIAMAT, a band that has evolved chameleon like with each successive release. Less tastefully known in their formative years as TREBLINKA (during which time vocalist Johan Edlund also pursued his side project GENERAL SURGERY), the Swedish quartet adopted the title of the Sumerian goddess of chaos and mythical planet TIAMAT. The band has evolved from a derivative Speed Metal / Death act to a more substantial stance in offering aggression with adventurous Progressive variances. As TREBLINKA the band consisted of vocalist/guitarist Johan Hedlund ("Lucifer Hellslaughter"), bassist Klas Wistedt, guitarist Stefan Lagergren ("Emetic") and drummer Andreas Holmberg ("Najse Auschwitzer"). This unit released the 1988 demo 'Crawling In Vomits' and follow up tape 'The Sign Of The Pentagram' in 1989. Also emerging that year would be the ' Severe Abomination' EP. Upon taking the TIAMAT moniker the group issued debut album 'Sumerian Cry' through CMFT Productions in 1990. ]
[ The roots of TREBLINKA must be found in a band called RIVER'S EDGE. This Swedish band released a demo called "Mind The Edge" in 1987. Johan Edlund was singing in this band and there, he knew guitarist Stefan Lagergren. Both of them decide to form another, more extreme band. TREBLINKA were formed in 1988 by Johan "Hellslaughter" Edlund (guitar and vocals), Jorgen "Juck" Thullberg (bass), Stefan "Emetic" Lagergren (guitar) and a drummer with the name of Auschwitzer. The band recorded their first demo "Crawling In Vomits" at the Sunlight Studios with the help of Tomas Skogsberg in the same year, getting great exposure in the whole Underground extreme scene. One year later, the band releases their second demo "The Sign Of The Pentagram". The last recording done by the band under this same name was a 7"EP (limited to 800 in black vinyl and 200 red ones), titled "Severe Abominations" and released by the band themselves through their own label called Mould In Hell Records in 1989. Due to many problems they had with the name of the band and its significance, they decide to change the name to TIAMAT, just before the recording of their debut record (there are rumors that at first, they had the intention of releasing it under the old moniker, but at last, and to avoid more problems, they did it with the new one). The album was a true masterpiece of dark Death Metal in the old vein and it was called "Sumerian Cry". Then, you all know what happened with the band. Recently, two bootleg 12" vinyls including their two demos. ]
