Twit One (real name Tim Purnell ) is a musician , producer and DJ from Cologne . [1]

Through his father, who comes from England, Purnell came into contact with soul , pop and disco music from the late 1970s and early 1980s.During his school years, he was further influenced by Michael Jackson , as well as hip-hop groups such as House Of Pain and Public Enemy .He also played bass in a punk and ska band as a teenager and thus gained his first experience as a musician. [2] [3]

After Purnell started collecting records , he bought an MPC in 2000 and started producing beats himself. Together with his friend Lazy Jones , he finally started playing in the Cologne bar in the same year. After initial success in the Cologne hip-hop scene and productions with rappers such as Retrogott , Sylabil Spill and Planet Asia , Purnell also worked with Fleur Earth and played bass in her band Fleur Earth Experiment and produced the beats. [3] [2] [4] [5] During a performance with Fleur Earth Experiment, the band was discovered in 2008 by Oliver "Olski" from Felbert, founder of the Melting Pot Music ( MPM ) label , and released their first album in the same year on the label. In 2009 he published with the Cologne producer Hulk Hodn under the common pseudonym Testiculo Y Uno the album Hi-Hat Club Vol. 1 on the label Melting Pot Music. This was followed by his first solo production, the 10 "record Steppingstones in 2010 also on Melting Pot Music, Urlaub in der Bredoullie in 2013 on the label Entbs (formerly Entourage-Business) , which is also based in Cologne. [7] [8 ]

Purnell is also a co-owner of the Groove Attack Record Store , own label under the third eye (AUDDA) and hosts the internet radio Radio Love Love together with Hulk Hodn and Memyselfandi . [9]

Style

According to his own statement, the main component of his music is always soul, as well as jazz , funk and disco influences paired with old school boom bap hip-hop. Ambient and house also influence Purnell's music, the latter being explicitly produced under Purnell's pseudonymTito Wun . The hashtag Cool Bap used on SoundCloud for its music has established itself as an apt name for a more relaxed type of boom bap. [10]

Many artists who share this style of hip-hop live and work in Cologne, which is why the city is also given its own sound in addition to its own scene . [11] These artists include Retrogott and Hulk Hodn as well as Hubert Daviz , who is also under contract with Melting Pot Music. The extended environment of the city and the label includes Suff Daddy , Dexter , Brenk Sinatra , Knowsum , Dramadigs , Fid Mella , DJ Adlib , Full Crates , FS Green and FloFilz . [12] [13]

Trivia

Purnell appears in connection with different artists under various pseudonyms, which sometimes leads to confusion. He is represented at the Twit Bonny collaboration with Miles Bonny both as Twit Uno and under the name Nestor Uno. Also on this album is a cover of The Doorssong Love Street by the group The Türs , in which Purnell is performed under the pseudonym Echomann as bassist. The album was produced and released under Purnell's usual stage name Twit One . [14] [15] Under the similar pseudonym Nesta Uno , he only released the single Is this Love / Dub on the British label Twit's World. [16] Purnell is also represented on the album On A New by Retrogott and Hulk Hodn as Wuitton , and as Gringo Starr on the single Burn You Ab / Safe In The Fire Dub by Fleur Earth. [17]

Purnell produces with an MPC 2000 XL as well as an MPC 500 and the audio software Cubase . [5]

Purnell called his home studio Treehouse and currently Mr. Wun's Dojo . [6]
