The superb Marc Bolan in the acoustic based Tyrannosaurus Rex.
I have all four Tyrannosaurus Rex LP's on Ebay at this time, all obtained from the same collector who after examination clearly looked after these with loving care.
Unicorn was the third of the 4 Rex albums issued before Marc went totally electric, and shortened the name to T.Rex. For those who are not familiar with early Bolan, he started his music career by penning poems written by himself, and adding his own guitar sound to them thus turning them into songs. This was in the mid 60's and was at a time when Pychadelia was fast taking a grip on the record buying public of Gt Britian.
Bolan joined John People a folky band and had a couple of mionor hits with them before setting up Tyrannosaurus Rex with friend Steve Peregrine Took.
Unicorn is a superb LP which even features the legendary John Peel reading a Poem. John Peel it was who was partly responsible for the Bolan phenomena, as it was he that constantly pushed Bolans records on his radio show, and was very instrumenatl in Bolans fame, hence the bit part on this Album.
This particular Lp is the 1970 second pressing. regal Zonophone originally issued the LP late in 1969, on a blue label , and reisuued the Lp on the new style label. The matrix Numbers end in -2 which indicate that this is a second press, and the stampers 1A/1R tell us thet it was a first press second issue.
The Sleeve is fully laminated gatefold and is in exceptional condition, the spine is particularly flat and perfectly legible. The laminate shows no sighns of lifting anywhere, and there are only a couple of little lines near the spine, which is quite normal.

The labels are as mentioned the Red and silver style Regal Zonophone, and are in excellent condition. No spindle hole wear, and only a very few spider lines to indicate that this album has only had a few plays in its lifetime.
The Vinly's surface gleams like new, and although there are a couple of very fine lines, these are non sounding.
From the near silent run in groove the Lp introduces us to Chariots of Silk as the opening track. It is noticeable that the stereo split and production therefore are superb. Very crisp clear sound with instruments easily detectable against each other. The linking groove is also near silent, and only very very occasionally can you detect a light pop.
Turning up the volume is a test I always perform on LP's to determine whether there is any groove wear, and thus distortion in the sound. This LP passes the test with flying colours. A superb example of theis early Bolan masterpiece.
