Description
Best I can tell, this is an extremely rare 3 record set by Thelonious Monk from I think the early 60's. The set is called "This is Thelonouis MONK". It was put out by Riverside Records. It has Riverside SDP66 on the front cover. The set contains 3 12 inch LP's. They are "Monk Plays Ellington", "Brilliant Corners" and "Thelonious Himself". All three discs look like they were played maybe once. I am not an expert on grading records by any means but the discs look incredible. The album jackets are also in great condition. "Brilliant Corners" has no ring wear, no fading and all the splines are perfect. "Thelonious Himself" has a little ring wear on the front and all the splines are perfect. "Monk Plays Ellington" has a tear in the top spline (see picture) but other than that the jacket is in wonderful condition. It really looks like they were taken out of the set box only once or so. The outer box has wear to all 4 corners and a few places on the edges. I have searched the internet for info on this set and can not find any info on it. I have talked to a couple of record collector friends of mine and they couldn't find anything about this set. This leads me to believe that this is a very rare set. Because I can't find the info, I have set a price on it that would go along with it's rarity. I'm open to serious offers and if anybody has info about this set I would like to know more about it. Shipping will be $15.00 to the lower 48 states. This is a 5 day no reserve auction so the high bidder wins! Please email any questions and I will do my best to answer them. Please check my other auctions this week as I will be listing some more jazz records from the early 60's on labels like Verve, Blue Note, Riverside and others.
