Comments: Basically, since the rock era started in the mid 50’s, the English often had a local artist record their own version of US hits. As they often succeeded in getting the hit rather than the US original the practice continued through the better part of the 60’s. Here is a one example - The Douglas Guys*) recording a Chip Taylor song which had two competing versions in the US, Jackie deShannon’s and Pozo-Seco Singers’. As far as I can determine this 45 didn’t make much noise in the UK, but Deram nevertheless decided to release it in the US. Go figure! It didn’t make any impression here either and I’m still to come across a stock copy. But here comes the twist – now some 50 years later it is suddenly in demand on the strength of the B-side, a perky up-tempo Mod Dancer with a lively organ and some inspired duetting between the guys.
B-side comped on “Night Comes Down: 60 British Mod R&B Freakbeat & Swingin London Nuggets”
*) not brothers as one could expect, but Ray French and Joe Fagin.
