A NOTE ABOUT THE SLEEVE:

In the early 70s, some record industry genius decided to produce wraparound gatefold sleeves with unappealing hard plastic inners with the bit of foam rubber at the opening (designed to 'clean' the record every time it was removed). A bad idea that quickly vanished into history, as the foam rubber quickly perished and became abrasive.

In this case, the plastic inner sleeve has caused some surface wear, and has become detached from inside the gatefold, then re-attached with tape. I will supply the record in an additional regular paper innersleeve.

Unicorn - Harmony Folk Rock

Unicorn’s first album, Uphill All the Way, sounds like a band simply ecstatic at the possibilities of this new brand of folk-rock; they cover all the greats of the genre: Neil Young, Jimmy Webb, John Stewart, James Taylor, Joe Cocker, and Gerry Rafferty. But the originals by Ken Baker show that he was just as good at evoking the sun drenched canyons of the beaches of Southern California as his influences; which is all the more impressive considering he was writing and singing from the famously overcast and rainy London.

Still Baker’s songwriting wasn’t yet up to snuff, the best song here is their beautiful interpretation of Webb’s P.F. Sloan, a tribute to the American songwriter. The amazing harmonies on this track reveal Unicorn was more than just a CSN rip-off like so many bands of this breed; these guys were the real deal.

It's easy to dismiss Unicorn's debut LP as little more than a Crosby, Stills & Nash ripoff, but listen closely -- what Uphill All the Way lacks in originality it makes up for in craftsmanship, with a beauty and grace that render arguments about innovation moot. Harmonies this natural simply can't be taught, let alone copied, and Ken Baker's original compositions -- though products of rainswept London -- effortlessly evoke the beaches and canyons of a southern California that only exists in dreams anyway. And while the counterculture ethos that inspired CSN resulted in songs that now seem quaint, Uphill All the Way -- for years essentially lost to all but the most avid British folk-rock aficionados -- remains fresh and timeless by comparison. Highly recommended.

We offer combined shipping on all LPs / 12" Vinyls: our shipping rates are listed above. HOWEVER shipping packages that weigh more than 2kg is VERY expensive. Therefore we can only offer combined shipping up to a maximum of SIX (6) LPs / 12" vinyls. Any extra purchases will be invoiced, packaged and shipped separately.

COMBINED POSTAGE FOR DIFFERENT FORMATS will be invoiced at my discretion:

While I am happy to combine (for example) one or two 7” singles into one package with 12” records, sometimes it simply isn’t practical (like if you want me to combine one 12” record with three or more 7” records). I simply do not think that these combinations can be packaged together safely and securely. Therefore these will be invoiced separately as two packages.

PAYMENT

I would appreciate payment within seven days of the auction’s end. If you want to bid on more of my auctions ending a week later please inform me. I will wait and issue a combined invoice at the close of the second week’s auctions.

However, I am no longer willing to carry combined transactions beyond two weeks and in these cases would appreciate payment promptly after the close of the second week’s auctions.

I am sorry to have to introduce these measures – I always try to be patient and allow buyers to bid on extra auctions and / or delay payment. Unfortunately some buyers have been stretching out transactions to unacceptable lengths so I feel I have no option but to limit ‘carried over’ transactions to two weeks.
