78 RPM Test Record - Gene Autry - "A Gangster's Warning" - UNIQUE, ONE OF A KIND. B Side is "Dear Old Western Skies"
Okay, we'll admit it. This one has us stumped. After many years in the business and seeing tens of thousands of old 78 RPM records, we've never seen one like this. The label, Recorded Publications Laboratories, wasn't a regular recording studio. They did test pressings and operated sound booths where amateurs could record their own voices to send to radio stations and major players. The labels were typed on a typewriter and then affixed to the record. Low tech and not the way big recording studios conducted business.
It IS Autry's voice on the record. He sounds mournful and unpolished, but that could be the low quality of the recording equipment. He did record both songs four years apart on different labels, and not together on the same record. It's impossible to date this record, but think it could be Gene experimenting with the songs. In any event, there's no doubt it's a one-of-a-kind record.
Used but in good condition. Test played. Guaranteed not to skip.
