Description
Unite! - No Label - Year Unknown - No Catalog Number - plays in STEREO
Extemely rare circa 1969-70 private-label bootleg compilation of protest and revolutionary songs, pressed in tiny quantities, and supplied with original hand-made artwork!
According to legend, these homemade albums were handed out at anti-war protests in the San Francisco Bay area to anyone with a portable record player. These are all definitely rousing tracks, intended to inspire a revolutionary mood, and the SF Bay area itself was a hotspot of counterculture, radical activism, and revolutionary politics at the time.
Tracks include "Revolution" by The Beatles, "Brave New World" by Steve Miller Band, "What Is Truth?" by Johnny Cash, "Freedom" by Richie Havens, "The Black Panther Party National Anthem", tracks by The Byrds, "Counter Revolution" by Jefferson Airplane, "In The Beginning" by The Moody Blues, and others. [At one time I had figured out all the tracks and artists, but have since misplaced my notes. Will update the listing with full tracklisting if time permits.]
Hand-stenciled in matte red paint, this hand-painted sleeve is visually bold and striking, and has aged gently. Its' symbolic icon of a rising fist clenching a peace sign vividly reflects the mood and mindset of restless youth culture in those times.
This nostalgic relic of the psychedelic era is an excellent candidate for framing and display!
A real counterculture artifact, and one of the earliest non-official compilations!
Condition of disc: EXC- a few isolated dull superficial scuffs and marks not deep enough to sound. Lays perfectly flat on turntable. No apparent defects. Heavyweight high quality vinyl.
Condition of cover: VG++ Some yellowed spotting on (still bright white) front and back, not interfering with image. Minor corner dings. All seams tight. Overall very nice presentable condition.
