UNKNOWN ARTIST 45rpm acetate (Emidisc) c.1966
This 45rpm acetate contains two unreleased tracks, 'If It Wasn't Me' and 'We Can't Go On This Way'. The former is an upbeat mod-style pop tune with prominent organ (running time: 2 minutes). At a pinch, it sounds a little like the Zombies. The handwritten label credits the recording to 'James Page Music', which was of course Jimmy Page's publishing company in 1965-66, so it's a fair guess that he produced the session, and perhaps plays the guitar on it. The B-side is a pop ballad (running time: 1.50), possibly by a different artist, and has a 'Tony Calder Limited' label I've never seen before. Calder was, of course, Andrew Loog Oldham's partner in Immediate Records, and a close associate of Jimmy Page's in the mid-60s.
CONDITION: 'If It Wasn't Me' is in lovely shape, with minimal oxidisation or marking, and some dust that I imagine could be carefully cleaned off. The playing surface of 'We Can't Go On This Way' has been scratched over, in keeping with the instruction on the label: 'NOT THIS SIDE'. Miraculously, it plays through, albeit with a barrage of popping. Other than that (!) it's in good shape, with minimal oxidisation or marking. It comes in what I assume is its original plain paper sleeve. I think it's fair to assume that this is a unique item. Orders will be shipped promptly worldwide.
