Description
US BLUE COLUMBIA 'VIVA-TONAL' SINGLE 68409-D (1936)
ENGLISH COLUMBIA MATRICES
THE TEMPEST- INCIDENTAL MUSIC (JEAN SIBELIUS)
LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA- THOMAS BEECHAM (C)
CONDITION '2'- EXCELLENT SHAPE.
This is a highly unusual issue. It was released in the USA by mistake after it had been recorded at the 1936 Leeds Festival after having been rejected for issue by Beecham. Since it was made at a live concert, nature itself played havoc with the 'Oak Tree' sequence, and the music is interrupted by audible rolling thunder. Perhaps Beecham objected to playing in support of The Almighty. Extensive excerpts were recorded but these sides alone were released and only in the USA. Test pressings exist.
The record was pulled from sale after a few months and is of the utmost rarity.
