Description
Extremely hard-to-find album by singer Serena Shaw, recorded in the late 1950's. Packaged to take advantage of the "Exotica" genre then-popular, one is tempted to suggest a comparison to cult singer Yma Sumac. The resemblance is only slight though, as Miss Shaw sings a program of mostly standards in a more serious, warm, sensual style. Accompanied by the unique arrangements of Rudy de Saxe, these studio sessions have a slightly jazzy feel not unlike some of the late night albums Julie London recorded at around the same time. Songs titles are listed on the photo. Album cover is extremely clean and in Excellent + condition. The vinyl is also very clean and well-taken care of. On listening to it, I would conservatively grade the LP as "EX-" due to the fact that the Rama albums were all rather cheap pressings. The LP plays with only a slight amount of surface noise, but it does not distract from the playing or listening. Perhaps a record cleaning machine treatment may improve the sound, but given the scarcity of this LP, it is fine. Rama RLP-5001, recorded in mono only.
