Holy grail alert.
Up for sale is an extremely rare, unreleased track by Dillinja, cut onto a one-sided 10" acetate dubplate lacquer.
From research online, this track has been referred to as “Monsta” and was reportedly intended for release on Metalheadz or Valve Recordings, but never officially came out. Audio clips circulating online suggest that DJs such as Jumping Jack Frost, Randall and Loxy were playing this at the time, although I cannot confirm the exact origin of this particular plate. I purchased it myself over 15 years ago.
This is a one-sided disc, with the reverse completely blank and no label present. It comes in an orange sleeve consistent with those used by the Music House cutting house, so it is possible it was cut there, but I am guessing.
I have play-tested and recorded the record today. It plays from start to finish with no skips and no loud pops or clicks. There is some light surface noise, which I would attribute to normal groove wear from being played over time. In the final couple of centimetres of the record, there is some very slight audio breakup in places, again consistent with groove wear rather than any major issue, and it does not affect playback. To describe this breakup, it sounds like the track at a couple of points is lightly distorting - this could just be the original recording, but it could be groove wear, so best to mention.
This dubplate is believed to date from around 1998, so it is approximately 27 years old. It is not a new record, but for its age it is in very good condition and appears to have been well looked after. There are visible hairline marks on both sides, as expected with acetate discs. I have included photos taken under both bright indoor lighting and natural light so you can clearly see the condition for yourself.
There is also a very small chip on the edge of the disc where the metal core is visible. This does not affect playback, but is noted for full transparency.
Based on the audio clips available online, this copy appears to be in better condition than other recordings of this track that are out there.
I have recorded a one-and-a-half-minute excerpt today and included it as a video in the listing gallery. Please note that eBay compresses audio to around 192kbps MP3 quality, so the actual playback quality of the record is better than what you will hear in the preview.
If you are looking at this listing trying to find the above-mentioned audio sample and cannot find it, then it is possible the standard video review will not have completed by eBay when you read this, so please check back after 48 hours as they can take a while to review video files.
This is a genuinely rare, unreleased Dillinja dubplate that almost never comes up for sale, and it is very likely a one-off opportunity to own it.
I will not provide full audio rips of the track, so please do not message asking for additional recordings. The preview included in the listing is the only audio that will be shared.
