Description

THE FALL: Perverted by Language. Used vintage LP (UK pressing) in Near Mint/Very Good+ condition. Rough Trade Recs. LP Catalog # ROUGH 62; 1983

Condition: Vinyl has a few areas of discoloration, not unusual for LPs; labels pristine. A superior English pressing. LP jacket has minor wrinkles at lower left as seen from front. “Made in England” is rubber-stamped on back of jacket. Original paper inner sleeve, with notes, included. Only flaw is my handwritten note to future self about a nasty warp on Side Two. However, using a clamp to “flatten” the LP on turntable avoided any problem in playing the platter recently.

Behind the Music: I first heard The Fall while tuned to a college radio station in Rhode Island. The song was the opening cut on this album, “Eat Y’Self Fitter.” A jaunty little ditty! But I recall it ran shorter than the version on this album, so it may have been what’s called a Radio Edit. There are some pretty lengthy cuts on this LP, total playing time over 40 minutes. I liken The Fall to their contemporaries, Gang of Four [see my listing for that band’s 4-cut EP], in that they were Brits speaking out against the Creeping Fascism of Margaret Thatcher in 1980s England. I think it’s also noteworthy that this album appeared on the eve of the year 1984, made so famous by Orwell’s novel. Sad to say, the perversion of language that now pervades our society has left The Fall’s concerns in the dust. In Mr. Trump’s universe—not to name names, wink wink!—Up truly is Down, Black is White and Wrong is Right. My asking price reflects current (September 2025) situation of supply and demand and prices on Discogs.

  • About the seller: I am downsizing my personal belongings, and you can benefit. Unless otherwise indicated, all my records have been owned by me alone and treated with loving care. No scratches or gouges. I have been a Jazz radio broadcaster for 30+ years, but my musical tastes are wide-ranging. You will see this as my listed offerings grow. New items added weekly, check back often!

[NOTE: I clean all LPs with the Record Doctor device, but you will likely find my items rather dusty when they arrive. I have a lot of static electricity in my house, and dust always instantly returns to record surfaces after cleaning! Sorry about that!]

PLEASE NOTE: I will not sell anything for less than $9.99, as it’s not worth packaging the item up and taking it to the Post Office. Sure, you can buy an LP for 50 cents or less at a yard sale, but will it have been cared for like mine? Not likely.

FREE SHIPPING to U.S. address for purchase of any item of $100 or more.
