V Discs were special recordings, pressed on  12", 78 RPM  vinyl records for the US troops who were fighting in WWII. Each disc was a new recording by one of the big names of the era (often with a special message to the troops). After the war, the original masters, plates, and many of the discs were destroyed, making these historic recordings incredibly scarce.
Some V-Discs were one of a kind recordings from artists like Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, and Billie Holiday, others featured once in a life time collaborations. Each was a unique recording, recorded by the artists for free, and produced by the US Government during the musicians strike.
Owing to the rarity of these recordings, and the unique position that they hold in history, they are often highly sought after. Many times the V Discs one might find are cracked, deeply scuffed and scratched, or otherwise rendered unplayable. They are often sold strictly as WWII memorabilia. Thankfully, each of the several dozen V-Discs we will be listing today should play from beginning to end without incident. None of them are cracked, and though several of them are scratchy or dirty, I believe they will all play through. I've personally sampled a good number of them, and found the recordings to be incredibly enjoyable, not only for the music itself, but also for the piece of history it represents.
Many (most) of the V Discs we have up for auction have quite a few scratches, however I firmly believe that they will all play from beginning to end without incident (these grooves are deep.)  Owing to the large number of these similar items, we will be using one photograph to represent each of them. Should you like a photo of an individual item, please contact us.
Shipping- Each record will be packed in a mylar inner sleeve and a dust cover, then placed between two pieces of cardboard, and into a custom LP mailer. These records did not come with outer sleeves originally, so the cardboard will serve to protect them from warping in transit. We take the utmost care in packaging our records, no one wants a rare item damaged in the mail.
**Attention International Buyers** We will ship anywhere in the world. In order to provide you with the fastest service, and help prevent your item from being lost, we only ship Priority or Express on international orders.
