Description

Before bidding, please take the time to read about shipping costs at the end of this listing. Shipping is not $4 to any destination. If in doubt or if you win more than one auction, please wait for my invoice.

Very nice first press US copy of the seminal Velvet Underground and Nico LP, V-5008.  This copy is the better and much rarer mono mix (77% of sales were stereo), and of course has the photo of the band on the jacket verso with the annoying Eric Emerson projected on the wall above them.  www.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Velvet_Underground_%26_Nico

This is an East Coast pressing, matrices Side 1 MG558  Rev, side 2 MG559.  There are a couple of very small and insignificant surface marks that do not affect play in the slightest, so I'll describe the LP as a solid Ex+, no pops, clicks or groove damage, clean and shiny and very hard to beat. While this mix is the best way to hear this LP, this recording was never intended to be 'audiophile' (quite the opposite...  note WLWH and Lou's so-called 'closet mix' for VU3).   What you get here is Warhol's 'non-production' values, which suited the band just fine.

The jacket is complete but has a deletion drill hole, the top of the spine has suffered a drop and minor paper loss and there is a split to the bottom edge on the opening side of the gatefold, so VG+.  The photographs will show you everything.  Ex+ original Verve inner bag present, but forgot to include in pics, sorry.  Since arriving in my collection the record has been stored in new lined inner inside plain white masterbag, as seen in pics.

For additional information please go to Olivier Landemaine's excellent VU website here:  www.http://olivier.landemaine.free.fr/vu/discog/lps/usa/lpsusa.html

Check all the pics..  and make the most of the enlargement facility!

The purge of the collection continues..... a varied batch this time around.

Check my other listings, my feedback, and bid with confidence.  Any reserves are realistic.  Good luck!

Regular clients will know that I keep my descriptions brief and to the point.  If you are looking, I figure you will know what you are looking at.  I would not presume to condescend nor would I wish to bore you to death.  Used records play-checked on EMT 930/929/TSD15/TMD25 and cleaned when necessary on a Loricraft Pro II.

GRADINGS:

MINT (M): Brand new and unplayed. Perfect, no indications of being handled or played. I only use this grading if I know for sure the record has not been played.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record is virtually flawless, clean and shiny.  Very minor, barely visible innerbag wear may be permitted, but no scratches. The disc should play with no audible noise. Jacket is as close to perfect.

EXCELLENT (EX): Record plays near perfectly, but may have minor paper scuffs that do not interfere with the sound quality. There can possibly be a non-sounding mark or two but nothing that affects play. Record is clean and shiny.  Any issues with the jacket will be minor and described.

Because I have never collected records that are a lower grade than EX, you won’t be finding any for sale here.

Recorded Delivery world-wide shipping for security and peace of mind. Discounted postage for multiple purchases.  Shipping is always at cost, including packing materials.

For one single LP: 25 US Dollars for the USA, the Far East and Australia, 18 US Dollars for Europe, 10 US Dollars for the UK.

I’m in the UK, so I obviously won’t be using USPS.  Shipping will be calculated for each buyer and included in my invoice.  There is NO flat rate.

I ensure that my records arrive with you in the same lovely condition they leave me, carefully packed in secure professional wraps with sheet polystyrene and cardboard packing.  Shipping costs reflect packaging.  I do not use bits of old cardboard box or those cheap flimsy envelope style mailers. If you think my shipping charges are too high, please shop elsewhere; don’t mark my star rating down after the fact, okay?

Records are always packed out of their jackets

I don’t like to say this, but if you cannot pay, please do not bid.

Of course this is the first US release from 1967....50 years old in March next year, and still fresh.... all questions welcome but hopefully the above info and pics will satisfy most.  Good luck!
