Gqom Oh! present a thorough - and thoroughly enjoyable - 19 track summation of the Gqom scene with their compilation The Sound Of Durban. Named after the Zulu word that translates roughly to "drum," the gqom scene in Durban was first brought to our attention on a superb Goon Club Allstars record last year, and it's been documented further by Gqom Oh!, with this compilation preceded by a 12" sampler over the summer months. Gqom is a wonderful hybrid of sounds, broaching hip-hop, sound system culture, UK funky and deep tribal African vibrations. This first compilation features a wide range of Durban artists, including Citizen Boy, Cruel Boyz, Emo Kid, TLC Fam and Formation Boyz.
