See my other auctions this week for a nice group of psych LPs, including an original MONO pressing of the Velvet Underground & Nico album with the banana cover! This auction is for a very interesting and somewhat obscure item. It is a flexi disc, originally included in a 1966 issue of Aspen magazine. One side features Peter Walker (billed as “Musical Director for Timothy Leary’s LSD “Religious Celebrations”) playing a love raga entitled “White Wind”. The other side has Velvet Underground performing a “song” called Loop. This disc has the distinction of being the very first commercially available recording of the Velvet Underground! As for the song itself, it is mostly guitar feedback performed by John Cale alone, and ends in a locked groove on the record… surely a precursor to Lou Reed’s “Metal Machine Music” which ends the exact same way. This disk is in great shape, no creases or other problems, and has been played minimally. I would call it VG++… just a very nice copy all the way around. VERY HARD TO FIND!!
