Rockabilly monster!
Here's one of the best early rockabillies to ever come out of Texas. Vern Pullens really goes all the way with this rockin' platter from Houston. It hit th streets in the fall of 1956, and is one of those boppin' rockers that is heavily influenced by all those Elvis Presley Sun recordings.
It's rather hard to pick a topside on this legendary record. "Bop Crazy" really says it all, with a hiccophy vocal and a twangin' guitar, it truly is a transitional record between country, rock and R&B.
But then it's flipped with "It's My Life" which is also great with it's slap bass, and guitar solos and clicky-clack cat rhythm. Zow!
These songs have been on so many rockabilly collections it's hard to keep track of them all. This is an original pressing on the sought-after SPADE Records label (owned by Bennie Hess & Doyle Jones) and home to several other cool waxings by Ray Doggett, Johnny McAdams, and Bennie Hess himself.
As you know – this seldom turns up in any condition, much less one that plays this well. Get it while you can, cat man!
