Description

VERY RARE Jeff Beck Group 1971 "Rough and Ready" Pitman Test Pressing Vinyl Lp + "The Best of Jeff Beck" 1971 Holland Import Lp.
Although not clearly marked with its contents, the "Rough and Ready" test pressing has been thoroughly listened to and is almost identical to subsequent pressings, barring the absence of "Max's Tune", which according to Wikipedia at least, was "on original United States releases", and as the album was recorded at Island Studios, London, from April to July, 1971, the absence of "Max's Tune" makes sense. It is also worth noting that the lengths of the six songs present on the album vary (if only slightly) from those on subsequent pressings, and are as follows, with the "official" album track listing and song length included afterwards for reference.
"Rough and Ready" Pitman Test Press. Lp Track Listing:
Side 1:
- Got that Feeling (approx. 4:31) - Situation (approx. 5:02) - Short Business (approx. 2:29)
Side 2:
- I've Been Used (approx. 3:23) - New Ways/Train Train (approx. 5:44) - Jody (approx. 6:00)
These song lengths are slightly shorter than those on the "official" release, which are as follows (via Wikipedia):
Side 1:
- Got that Feeling (4:46) - Situation (5:26) - Short Business (2:34) - Max's Tune (8:24 - Not on the test pressing, being original only to American releases)
Side 2:
- I've Been Used (3:40) - New Ways/Train Train (5:52) - Jody (6:06)
In attempting research on the test pressing, I was unable to find anything even remotely comparable. "The Best of Jeff Beck" album includes "Hi Ho Silver Lining"; "Tallyman"; "Love is Blue"; and "Rice Pudding"; with "Rock My Plimsoul"; "Shapes of Things; "I've Been Drinking"; "I Ain't Superstitious"; and "Plynth (Water Down the Drain)" on side 2. A Mickie Most Production.
