Description

You're looking at an extremely nice copy of the 1968 progressive rock classic LP, the self-titled ELMER GANTRY'S VELVET OPERA. It is an original on the yellow DIRECTION label, CAT# 8-63300 (STEREO). The front (laminated) cover is in very Near Mint condition - looks great! Please note the white you see at the edges is not wear but reflections caused when photographing. The back (non-laminated) cover has, unfortunately, has a (totally unnecessary) sellotape reinforcement to the top edge.. this has been successfully removed but has left a residue - please see photo #2. The labels are clean and unblemished with only minimal and faint spindlemarking. The vinyl itself does have some light surface 'paper' marks, but these do not sound. I have play-tested this LP on a Pro-ject deck with lightweight tone-arm and it sounds just great, although there are a couple (but only a couple!) of quiet 'ticks, which I ascribe to dust in the groove.. I think a grade of Exc+ is fair. Driven by the Hudson/Ford rhythm section, the music drives along, As a top-flight example of psychedelia-tinged early prog rock this album rates among the best.
SIDE ONE: INTRO; MOTHER WRITES; MARY JANE; I WAS COOL; WATER SLY MEETS BILL BAILEY; AIR; LOOKIN' FOR A HAPPY LIFE

SIDE TWO: FLAMES; WHAT'S THE POINT OF LEAVING; LONG NIGHTS OF SUMMER; DREAM STARTS; REACTIONS OF A YOUNG MAN
