I first heard the BIRD-CURTIS QUINTET at the "GREEN MAN" at BLACKHEATH, where they played from 1962-1967 as the resident group, and acted as hosts to numerous visiting musicians such as Tubby Hayes Quartet, the Rendell-Carr Quintet, Sonny Stitt and teh new jazz Orchestra. Eventually the "GREEN MAN" jazz club folded and the band are currently to be heard at various clubs and pubs, including the "BROCKLEY JACK" and Ronnie Scotts "OLD PLACE". This is thier first LP and all the tunes are originals by the members of the band. If you haven't heard of the group before I think you will be surpirsed at the beauty and originality of the music on this record. If you have heard the QUINTET live or on radio broadcasts uou'll just be pleased they've got around to making this record at last.
