EXTREMELY RARE & SOUGHT AFTER UK PSYCH LP
Whymsical narrated concept album telling a fairytale story about a magic shoemaker, There are some very strong tracks here and the album overall is very good indeed.
The plot is a story being told to some young children on a bus journey and is written and narrated entirely by Dave Lambert.
Not long after this album was released the band split and Dave joined The Strawbs
stylistically—as might be expected for 1970—the album finds itself in a period of transition from psychedelia to progressive rock. It is clear, however, that the band itself is not particularly married to any genre, and thus, the resulting album is simply very artful, melodic, and utterly listenable. As such, it presents neither the clichés of psychedelia nor the pretension of prog rock. Although all the songs on the album are good, there are some standouts, including the introductory “Tell You a Story,” the beautiful, melodic “Only a Dream,” and the energetic rocker “Flies Like a Bird.”

I HAVE GRADED THE SLEEVE AS VERY GOOD, AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PHOTO THERE IS A TEAR TO THE BOTTOM CORNER OF THE FRONT AND SOME SCUFFING TO THE TOP AND BOTTOM EDGES OF THE SLEEVE, APART FROM THAT THE SLEEVE IS FINE
THE RECORD HAS IT’S ORIGINAL INNER SLEEVE
THE RECORD ITSELF IS A VERY CLEAN COPY IT STILL RETAINS IT’S FULL GLOSSY SHINE THERE IS NO GROOVEWEAR OR SERIOUS MARKS OR SCRATCHES AND NO SURFACE MARKS WHEN VIEWED UNDER BRIGHT LIGHT.
ON SIDE 1 I CAN SEE JUST TWO VERY FAINT LIGHT MARKS NEITHER CAUSE ANY PROBLEMS WHEN THE RECORD IS PLAYED THE OTHER SIDE I CAN SEE ONE VERY FAINT LIGHT MARK THE REST OF THE RECORD IS PERFECT. SOME PEOPLE WOULD PROBABLY GRADE THIS RECORD AS NEAR MINT I HAVE BEEN FUSSY AND CAUTIOUS WITH MY GRADING THEREFORE I HAVE IS GRADED THE RECORD AS EXCELLENT +
