Description
I recently picked up this excellent and, to my knowledge, undocumented vintage soul 45 “two-sider” at an antique mall. The artist is MARILYN CALLOWAY and THE 4-SILVERTONES on the AJAX label out of Los Angeles. Sounds and looks to me like mid to late sixties. Both sides are nice uptempo, the A side is entitled “Shut Up” and the B side is “My Lover.”
I have not heard of this artist/group or label before, and after searching the internet and the Manship guides cannot find any documentation of this record. It appears to be a stock copy, burgundy label with silver print.
AJAX Records is identified as part of EM Recordings, 11009 So. Main St., Los Angeles, Calif. “When Better Sound is Made – We Will Make It.”
Catalog number is Ajax 200.

Both sides show some scuffing and a couple slight hairlines but most of the original gloss remains, there are no serious marks, and both sides play with strong fidelity as you hear in the sound clips.
“A” side label is clean and pristine, “B” side label has a small torn spot at the top center, otherwise fine.
I have placed what I believe to be a very modest reserve, and I have no doubt the winning bidder will be quite pleased with this obviously extremely rare piece.
