Description
PLEASE NOTE: I WILL ONLY GRADE AN OPENED LP NEAR MINT (NM) IF I CAN GUARANTEE IT HAS NEVER BEEN PLAYED (i.e. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER). OTHERWISE, NEAR MINT MINUS (NM-) IS THE ABSOLUTE HIGHEST GRADE I WILL ASSIGN AN OPENED LP.
HIDEOUSLY rare privately pressed Baha'i freak-out concept album on the tiny Candle label from the Chicago area, which had a grand total of two releases to its name (the other being a rare Persian classical album by santoor virtuoso Kiu Haghiighi(!)). Warren Kime is mostly known for his 3 Brass Impact LPs on Command in the 60s, but this apple couldn't have fallen further from that tree. A gloriously psychedelic mélange with some VERY funky basslines to boot (think David Axelrod), this LP must have completely disappeared upon arrival. Some very sampladelic stuff in here beat diggers, so don't sleep. I have been collecting voraciously for over 40+ years here in Chicago and NEVER seen another one of these. This LP could not have been cheap to manufacture, as the cover has not one, but two die-cut squares and a large, envelope style flip-top opening with the very edge folded up to reveal the artist and title text!! The Candle logo peeks out the small die-cut square in the bottom left hand corner on the front, meaning the corners of the paper inner sleeves had to be clipped for it to show! The other die-cut square is on the rear and presumably displayed the side 1 label with the song titles as the side 2 label was largely blank, save for the white number 2 side indicator. Once the LP was removed, the cast of characters was in view along with the Candle address. What makes this copy even more special are the 2 incredibly rare bright yellow promotional flyers I found tucked inside the cover. The first is for Warren's residency at the undoubtedly fashionable Charlie's Angels in the northwest Chicago suburb of Des Plaines. The second is a talent agency-style advert that was probably a lot cheaper than those super glossy head shots most acts used (and still use) as a business card. The LP itself is a gorgeous VG++/NM- and the cover is a nice VG+ with a small 1" split at the opening on the left hand side. This will most assuredly be your only chance of ever owning a lot like this.
