Description
Here is the third of over a hundred ethnic Greek 78 rpm records from the late 1930s to the 1950's. I acquired these several years ago and it's time to transfer (by sale) to someone else's library of treasure vintage music. They are part of a collection I was given some 15 years ago -- and it's apparent they have always been stored and handled properly.
I'm not a record expert when it comes to appraising so I am hesitant to give a rating of this fine record.. one the best in the collection. Seeing other evaluation systems the pros have worked out for 78 Records, I would call this rare Orthophonic label record as a VERY GOOD PLUS. The minor surface noise can be EQ'd and there is no needle damage or cracks. The remaining original gloss on the record is remarkable with very few handling scuffs.
The record is, of course, "used" having been played often back in the 1940's 50's and handled with a certain degree of care based the record finish. This collection has to be 60+ years old.
As you can see from the photos (be sure to enlarge) both labels are in excellent shape. The "Vamnph" side has a tiny spindle mark and the "OI Konoktphnaioi" side label is IMMACULATE. You can see the details of the songs on both sides and its registration details from the labels themselves - S-544 A&B. Both side are excellent clarinet solos by V. Besiri, if I am interpreting correctly.
I don't yet know much about the vintage Greek musicians on my records and which ones a sought after, but I am learning as I prepare and offer them for sale. It interesting to see which ones get a lot of attention.
In the case of 78 rpm recordings, no returns are accepted. Most buyers are genuine honest collectors but we all know that perhaps some buyers are so focused on the goal of just the music and want to duplicate on MP3 and return the record. At least that's what I want to do right now. I seek to be a trustworthy seller and have started on Ebay with that intention.
Sellers (me) are not allowed by Ebay to insert an audio clip in the presentation. Email me a question and I will see if the :60 mp3 audio clip can be sent to you in my answer. This way you can grade the audio yourself.
