How I grade my vinyls ------>
1. I visually look at the vinyl for any scratches or scuff marks, if i see a lot of scratches or marks on the record i will not sell it.
2. then i play it on the turntable to see if there are any warps on the vinyl and to listen to sound of the record
3. If i hear too many pops and clicks and background noise i will NOT sell it, keep in mind most records that i sell are
in used condition, unless i state otherwise. Most used records due tend to have a pop or click sound or some kind of
background noise. Unless i state that the vinyl is in Near Mint condition.
4. I will state if it comes in original jacket or plain jacket and if it comes in original inner sleeve as well. If the record
has a Picture cover i will state that as well and i will let you know what the condition of the picture cover is in.
5. then i proceed to grade the record from Mint condition being the best grade to G (good) condition being the lowest.
6. My definitions of record grades are as follow
1. - Mint Condition or M --- this condition of Mint i rarely use unless it's a vinyl that has never been played or
is still in a sealed condition. Keep in mind the jacket or cover needs to be in excellent condition as well.
2. - Near Mint Condition or NM is a vinyl that is right under the belt of Mint condition it's obviously been played
before but it's in perfect condition No visible scratches or marks on the vinyl and plays like new. When i mean
plays like New that means there are No pops and clicks sound and No background noise. Label of the vinyl
should be in excellent condition.
3. - Excellent condition or EX + is a vinyl that is right under the wing of Near Mint condition meaning the record plays
excellent and has great sound. May have a scuff mark or a light scratch on the vinyl but does Not affect play. May
have a writing on the label, if there is writing on the label i will be sure to state that there is writing on the label
when i sell it.
4. - Very Good + or VG + is a vinyl that has obviously been played. There may be some light scratches and scuff
marks that don't affect play. You may hear a pop or click sound in the more soft areas of the vinyl.
5. - Good or G condition is the least of the grades. In this grade you will see a few light scratches and scuff marks
that don't affect play. You may hear a few pops and clicks sound and some light background noise in the more
soft areas of the vinyl. It may have a light warp but does not affect play. If there is a light warp i will state that
there is a light warp when i sell it.
6. - Anything below G condition i will not sell it. If i see and hear a record that has obviously been abuse and sounds
terrible i will not sell it. I'm a record collector too and i won't sell a record that i wouldn't be happy with. : )
So rest assure if i sell it, it's worth selling. If your a picky record collector and have a question regarding a record,
send me a question and i will be happy to answer your concerns.
