NOTES: Vladimir Vissotsky - although not considering himself as a professional composer because he was self-taught, had a legacy that deserves a musical encyclopedia. Author, composer and performer, this Russian Brassens is also a little Rimbaud and Nougaro. His music, first thought as a simple background music for his poems (often only by a single seven-strings guitar), surprises us by the number of gypsy and latin rhythms that revive it. As a great admirer of the Russian gypsy music, and later of swing and vocal jazz, Vissotsky made an astonishing mixture containing all these influences in his music. A successful mix and oh, how difficult, if you know that one is binary and the other ternary. Rare are related recordings that give an idea of a final form of his music. All the more so that the performance could change according to the almost theatrical interpretation of Vissotsky, that led to large differences in the melody, and in this way, each performance is unique. And this is not surprising if you know that Vissotsky was an excellent actor and comedian who even wrote theatral plays. His poems and songs too ressemble plays or fables, which make us remember figures such as those of Chekhov or Dostoievsky.
