Originally released in 1989, the fifth full-length from criminally underrated Canadian thrash metal heroes Voivod marked their first turn towards a more mercurial methodology in terms of craft, with many citing Nothingface as the dawn of their progressive metal beginnings. Their most successful project to date, even noted for being the only release from the band to ever break into the Billboard 200 chart, while the music video for their cover of Pink Floyd's 'Astronomy Domine' received steady rotation on MTV's Headbanger's Ball, there's simply no denying the creative rebirth that takes place across these expansive nine cuts. The complex riffs interpolating Igor Stravinsky's 'The Rite of Spring', which become the focal point of standout track 'Pre-Ignition' also need to be heard to be properly absorbed and appreciated, and this repress offers no more optimum manner in which to do so.
