Description

Van Der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts - UK original CAS 1051
Charisma pink scroll labels with Rare lyric sheet insert !

A complete very early pressing of this superb slice
of classic English progressive rock music

Matrix numbers CAS 1051 A-1U/B-1U

The sleeve is the slim spined matt finish printed by E.J.Day group Ltd
featuring the B&C Records Ltd  credit

The condition of the sleeve is close to Excellent with no ringwear to the front,
and very little surface rubbing or edgewear that often plagues these covers.
The spine has one small compression to the top corner and otherwise
there are 3 or 4 small finger shaped creases to the rear but overall it is very good indeed.
The inner gatefold is excellent also. Deep rich vibrant colours,
no yellowing to the white border and crisp, sharp corners

 The lyric insert is also excellent;
very minimal signs of handling.
No tears, creases, greasy finger marks and impressions you mostly find.
Sharp crisp edges and corners and lies completely flat.

The disc itself looks shiny and the labels are clean BUT
the playing surfaces exhibit a fair amount of rubbing and fine lines
I was expecting the worst, however on a very loud playback through my
high end and unforgiving system it actually sounds stunning
albeit with light crackle in the quiter sections. However, given the dynamics of the recording
the louds are such that this noise  floor becomes quickly hidden
and the surface scuffing in no may affects the music. No groove wear.
The complex sections are totally clear and trasparent and powerful, never distorted.

Now for the bad news...........

There is a jump during Lemmings when Peter Hammill sings "Look to the why and where we are.."
it plays as "Look to the Wah", but at least it stays in tempo and it still rhymes
with the next line "look to yourself and the stars" I think if you didn't know the music as well as I do
you might not even notice, given the band's fondness for odd time signatures. However...

Towards the end of side two there are two small scratches -2mm.
One of these sounds over the music duing 5 rotations I think. Not that distracting
as it occurs during a fairly turbulent section. And finally....

The original owner thought fit to write the track times on the labels in blue ink.
It is not that noticable but I have to say. See the photos.
The paper inner sleeve was badly damaged and taped and written over
so it is housed in a new poly lined inner.

O.K. Thats about all. I shall start the bidding low as there are issues
but given that a lyric sheet alone can fetch £45 or more and these sleeves are often very worn
there is a good reason to buy this if your copy has such a cover in need of upgrading
or has no lyric insert. Adding a cleaner disc to this would give you a real stunning copy.

I live in France and all items I sell are here so ostage is at French rates but if you are in the UK it is fixed
Other locations are fixed also at a higher rate. If you require insurance or other service please ask before
bidding or paying as I can quote depending on your location and requirements.
Rest assured however that LPs are packed in strong cardboard mailers and discs removed from sleeves.

Thanks for looking.
